Indeed I am so fond of temples and wanted to visit again and again. Because I like to worship God and love to enjoy the surrounding atmosphere. I had visited many temples in Guwahati but mentioning 5 iconic temples in Guwahati, Assam from my top list. In fact, my marriage has happened in a famous temple of Guwahati and I felt so honored by that.

Iconic Temples – Kamakhya Temple

One of the world’s renowned temple,”Kamakhya Temple” comes in the uphill place of Nilachal Hill in Guwahati. You won’t believe that the view of the city from the mountain is just like “woo” especially at night, the view is just like “tiny little golden stars flying over the black sky”. I can not even scroll my eyes for a while to see the marvelous scene.

If I said about the temple, there is no definite idol in the temple. But the whole temple is simply made with the statue of the goddess. I am so admired that my married life starts from this temple with the blessings of “Kamakhya Maa”. Here, from entry to exit, everything is so beautifully organized.

You can visit from 7 am to 4 pm every day. But if you have a plan to enter the temple or worship goddess, come early in the morning to avoid rushes.

Oh! another beautiful temple is”Balaji Temple”.It is a temple of Lord Venkateswara and is situated at Bethkuchi area, Lokhra, Guwahati. The idols of Lord Ganesha and Goddess Durga is also there with Lord Balaji. When you have just crossed the entrance gate,”Oh my god” you will feel the actual beauty of the temple which is so elegantly built with pure white and imposing structure. Likewise, the temple has a beautiful park, it looks so beautifully arranged around.

“Umananda temple or Shiva Temple” is also known as world’s smallest river island, situated in the heart of river Brahmaputra, Guwahati, Assam. The temple is totally dedicated to lord “Shiva”, many devotees come to show their love to god during the day. The famous temple and the beauty around there are just amazing.

To reach the temple, you need to cross the river over a boat/ferry from Kachari Ghat. You just need pay Rs.10 per person for 20 mins ferry ride to the beautiful temple.

“Basistha Temple” is also known as “Basistha Ashram” located in Beltola Area, Guwahati. The temple stands on the bank of the river Basistha with a calm and peaceful environment. It is essentially a Shiv Temple and the ashram is belonged to “Maharishi Vaisistha”( As per Hindu Epic – Ramayana).

The temple is situated at the base of verdant hills and surrounded by a lush green forest, close to a waterfall. Therefore, Halt close to the temple and start walking, this walk will give you an opportunity to admire the nature.

Iconic Temples – Dirgheswari Temple

Finally ! another beautiful temple “Dirgheswari Temple” located on the northern bank of the river Brahmaputra, Guwahati. You can find the main sanctuary of the goddess Durga is in the small cave and also many rock images of gods are immensely engraved on the rocks of the hill.  At first, you will have to worship Lord Ganesha, stayed at the entrance of the temple. If you can observe the temple and the beautiful scenery around there, you will find the excellency of the temple.
